WycliffeCollege was built in 1891 and is a registered historical landmark. It stands on the corner of Hoskin Avenue and Queen’s Park circle in the heart of the University of Toronto campus. Museum and St. George subway stations and many bus stops are all within walking distance. The school is close to University athletic facilities, libraries, art galleries, restaurants, museums and many downtown attractions.
Wycliffe is a graduate theological college of the Anglican Church of Canada. Its seventy-five residence rooms are home to a number of students training for ordained or lay ministry; however, the majority of residents are graduate students from other disciplines at the University of Toronto and its affiliates.
Wycliffe has established a reputation as a quiet, conservative place for graduate students to live and pursue their work.In order to maintain this reputation Wycliffe has developed a series of housing regulations that residents agree to live by.Among the more prominent of these is that there is no smoking anywhere in the building, no overnight guests are allowed in dorm rooms, and quiet hours are maintained from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
All rooms are single.Men and women occupy different floors in the residence. The rooms come furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, chair, telephone, and bookshelf. The telephone in each room includes local calls, call waiting, call display and voice mail (calling cards are available at the Front Desk). There are internet and cable jacks in each room(High Speed Internet is included for free with the room while a cable TV connection can be purchased from Rogers Cable). Facilities in the building include two television lounge rooms, a billiard and ping-pong table room, a tennis court with a basketball hoop, shared washrooms on each floor, library and study spaces in the building, a chapel, two laundry facilities (coin operated), and a small back yard and inner court yard for quiet studying time. Application may also be made for on-site parking for a monthly fee, though parking spaces are in very limited supply.
All residents are required to pay for both room and board during the school year. The refectory serves breakfasts and dinners on the meal plan (Monday through Saturday at specific times) and there is an inexpensive “toonie” lunch which is not included in the meal plan (Monday through Friday only). There are no meals served during the summer.Wycliffe does offer a basic vegetarian meal option.Beyond that, if you have unique dietary needs you should consult with the residence director before applying to live at Wycliffe. There is no cooking allowed in rooms, but there are kitchens located on each floor of the residence with basic shared facilities.
There is high demand for housing at Wycliffe and rooms fill up quickly. We typically have all our rooms filled by June for the following school year.In selecting residents we give priority to those who can commit to staying with us for the entire academic year or longer.
