The Master of Theological Studies is a two year academic program (20 credits) ideally suited to students who are seeking a general introduction to Christian scholarship and a deepening of the theological foundations of their faith.
Students intending to develop a more systematic theological context in which to understand their lay ministry, and to develop competencies in the practice of ministry, should choose courses distributed over several disciplines. They are also encouraged to take "Ministry and Theological Method" (WYP 1610H).
The M.T.S. can be used to qualify for doctoral study in the Toronto School of Theology for candidates who achieve an "A" average and develop an academic focus with thesis during their program. Students who are using the M.T.S. as preparation for doctoral studies or other advanced degree work should plan their program with a view to specialization in their chosen area.
The Master of Theological Studies can be taken entirely on a part-time basis over the course of eight years. The degree is awarded conjointly with the University of Toronto.
