Work of organization: The Drop-In Meal Program at Church of the Redeemer strives to create a space where the marginalized and homeless in Toronto’s downtown core can find a place to find hope, healing, and community. The program is open Monday through Friday, 9am-12 noon, offering breakfast and lunch, a medical clinic, counselling, employment and housing assistance, as well as holistic programming (such as an Art Studio, Music Group, Leadership Committee, Bible Study, and more).

Kinds of internships:As an intern with this program, you would participate in creating community and a welcoming space, which starts with building rapport and friendships with participants. Beyond this, an intern would have the opportunity to help give leadership to one of our internal programs (already running, or creating something new) and would assist participants with advocacy needs as they arise. Interns are also asked to participate as facilitators in Talk & Pray (weekly biblical reflection group).

Desirable skills: Interns in this program should be respectful, patient, creative, willing to learn, and have an interest in urban ministry. Interns must be able to be present for program (mornings 9am-12 noon). Every morning is not necessary, specific timelines and schedules can be agreed upon. Experience in urban ministry, working with those experiencing homelessnesss, addictions, or other multipule barriers is a plus.
