Work of organization: World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. As followers of Jesus, we are motivated by God's love for all people regardless of race, religion, gender or ethnicity. World Vision Canada has program partners in over 60 countries around the world including Canada.

Canadian Programs
World Vision's Canadian Programs department hopes to inspire positive change among impoverished Canadians by partnering with churches, educational institutions, and other non-profit organizations. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for the lonely, the underprivileged, and those caught in the web of poverty and despair.

Kinds of internships: At this point we are offering internships with Canadian Programs working with local partners in downtown Toronto. Through this internship students will gain skills and experience in the basics of our approach for working with communities all over the world. While international internships are limited, those who do well with Canadian partners will be considered for international internships.

Desirable skills: The most important skills are interpersonal. The ideal candidate will be able to foster open, transparent and collaborative relationships with a wide range of people. In addition to this kind of 'emotional intelligence' students should have strong analytical thinking skills, be able to express themselves both written and verbally and have a strong desire to learn.

Number of internships: 10

Location of internships: With local community organizations in Toronto

Duration of internships: 3-6 months (as part of the fall and winter foundations course)

Costs: Local transit

Accommodation: If an internship is arranged with an international partner then the partner will find appropriate accommodation (including proper sanitation and water facilities, private cooking and sleeping arrangements). Costs vary depending on the country and site (urban vs rural).

Insurance: Depending on the context insurance may be simple 'Blue Cross' type travel insurance or more additional insurance may be needed for more remote locations.

Medical coverage: As above. In some cases there will be additional costs for immunization (e.g. Yellow Fever).

Training: We do not have a formal program but make arrangements as per the need of the intern. Typically orientation involves 2-4 weeks work in the Mississauga office with daily coaching from the mentor staff. Each intern is paired with a mentor who is responsible for our relationship with the partner country.

Evaluation: Typically the partner country completes a performance appraisal and it could be arragned to be shared with Wycliffe.

Volunteering: Currently we do not have volunteer opportunities but this could be arranged depending on how students do in the Canadian programs part of the course.

Faith statement: We have a statement of core values which we expect all staff and volunteers to agree with. These are the fundamental principles that determine our commitment to each other and to the poor. They are as follows:
1. We are Christian.
From the abundance of God's love, we find our call to ministry.

2. We are committed to the poor.
We are called to relieve their suffering and to promote the transformation of their condition of life.

3. We value people.
We regard all people as created and loved by God. We give priority to people before money, structure, and systems.

4. We are stewards.
We are faithful to the purpose for which resources are given and manage them in a manner that brings maximum benefit to the poor.

5. We are partners.
We are members of an international World Vision Partnership that transcends legal, structural, and cultural boundaries.

6. We are responsive.
We are responsive to the life-threatening emergencies where our involvement is needed and appropriate.
