Wycliffe Serves is pleased to welcome Dr Thomas Long to our annual Preaching Day on Friday, November 7, 2014. He is the Bandy Professor of Preaching at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia.
Tom Long is a gifted communicator who has taught and written extensively about preaching including The Witness of Preaching (1st ed1989, 2nd ed. 2005) which is one of the most widely used texts on preaching. In The Witness of Preaching, he speaks about the preacher as one who goes to the biblical text on behalf of the congregation. His concern is to help preachers learn how to ‘bear witness’ by engaging deeply with the text while also listening for God’s voice in the context of a local community of people. His focus for the day will be: Preaching Today: Being a Credible Witness in a Skeptical Age
On November 7th, Dr. Thomas Long will be joining us at Wycliffe College for three plenary sessions:
Preaching in a Cultural Whirlwind
The Biblical Choir: Preaching the Many Voices of Scripture and
What Listeners (Probably) Need in Sermons and How (Mostly) to Provide It
Join us for this exciting opportunity to learn from one of North America’s foremost preaching experts!
