Wycliffe College to bestow honourary doctorates on vital leaders in the Christian Community
On Monday, May 12, 2008 the Wycliffe College class of 2008 will graduate at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto. In addition to the 50 men and women graduating from masters’ programs in divinity and theology, Wycliffe will bestow honourary doctorates on four vital leaders in the Christian community.
The Rt. Rev. Linda Nicholls has brought a deep theological and spiritual sensitivity to her ministry both locally and nationally. Bishop Nicholls is the newly elected suffragan bishop of Trent-Durham in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto.
The Most Rev. Paul Kwong has brought wisdom and a conciliatory spirit to national and international episcopal work. Archbishop Kwong is primate of the Anglican diocese of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui and Bishop of Hong Kong Island.
As Senior Minister at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, the Rev. Andrew Stirling has been an exemplary leader in preaching and proclamation of the Gospel message in our cultural context.
And finally, Graham Kendrick, of Kent, England, who has been described as “the father of modern worship music” reminds us that good theology should sing! Kendrick is scribe of “Shine Jesus Shine” and “Let the Living Waters Flow”.
On this year’s honourands, The Rev. Canon Dr. George Sumner, Principal of Wycliffe says, “God the Holy Spirit is at work renewing the Church in its prayer, its counsels, its proclamation, and its worship. We are so proud to present these four honourands, we represent different gifts in that one renewing work.”
