Wycliffe College, together with Trinity College, is happy to announce a joint appointment of the Rev. Dr. Victor Shepherd for advanced degree work in both schools. With a doctorate from Emmanuel, TST in 1978, Dr .Shepherd formerly held the chair in Wesley Studies, and is now professor of historical and systematic theology at Tyndale Seminary. His expertise includes Calvin and Wesley, and he is the author of a number of books, including The Nature and Function of Faith in the Theology of John Calvin. Victor has been active in pastoral ministry and is a renowned preacher who has published a number of books of his sermons.
The College is also happy to announce the appointment of Dr. David Demson as adjunct professor in historical and systematic theology. Dr. Demson, who studied with Karl Barth himself, taught for four decades at Emmanuel College, and then at Regis College, in the TST. He has served as the president of the Canadian Theological Society and the Karl Barth Society. He has a heart for the cause of peace in the Middle East. His writings include translation of Zwingli into English, and Hans Frei and Karl Barth: different ways of reading Scripture. He is, in addition, a goldmine of theological stories. He will teach the required course in the Reformers for basic degree students, as well as an advanced degree seminar in Karl Barth.
Principal George Sumner commented “Wycliffe’s theological roots are in the Reformation, and it is therefore important that we have theological strength in this area. For this reason, as well as for their deep Christian faith, we are delighted to welcome both Victor and David to our teaching faculty.”
We are also very happy that David is joined in his teaching role by his wife Leslie, who brings expertise in the teaching of Biblical Hebrew. She will enhance our commitment to make biblical study the backbone of our program.”
