Principal Sumner Attends Anglican College Principals’ Gathering in Canterbury
Wednesday May 18th, 2011
From May 12 to May 18, 2011, selected principals from around the Anglican Communion met at the Conference Lodge across from Canterbury Cathedral to pray together, establsih friendships, make contacts, and think together abut their common vocation. A highlight of the meeting was Archbishop Rowan's address to the group about our common theological foundation in the Triune life into which we are invited.
Each morning began with communion in the crypt where St. Anselm was entombed, and each day concluded with Evensong led by the Cathedral Choir. Representatives from Myanmar and the Congo reminded us of the cost of discipleship; the principal from the Sudan lacked the funds fo the visa even to attend. A number of new opportunities for global ministry at Wycliffe will emerge from the conversations.
At a personal level Prinicipal Sumner particularly enjoyed making the acquaintance of Patrick Tanjuanco, W78, dean of St. Andrew's Seminary, Manila, as well as John Madinda, principal of St. Philip's, Kongwa, Tanzania and the son of the bishop who ordained him in 1981. (see pictures below).
