Wycliffe Mourns the Passing of Rev. Bob Kelsey (W'78)
Friday February 24th, 2012
The Rev'd John Robert (Bob) Kelsey (1928-2012)
It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of the Reverend John Robert (Bob) Kelsey. Bob retired in 1994 and was living in Barrie. Following a stint in the Canadian military, which included service in Korea, he went to Wycliffe College. Graduating with an LTh in 1978, he was ordained deacon and priest in the same year. He served the Parish of West Thunder Bay for four years (1978-1982), then spent another three years in Sudbury at Church of the Resurrection (1982-1985). From 1985 to 1994 he was the incumbent at Trinity-St Alban’s, Bala; All Saints’, MacTier; and Church of our Lady, Southwood.
Bob had not been well since the autumn, and, on Ash Wednesday, died peacefully in his sleep from complications of pneumonia at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. He was 83 and leaves his wife of 56 years, Irma, and two boys, Bruce and Michael. A funeral will be held at St Giles Church in Barrie on Saturday, 25 February 2012, at 2 p.m.
