WIGMORE, The Reverend Dr. Verschoyle Dudley July 19th 1912, Toronto, Ontario – August 1st 2013, Ottawa, Ontario
In 1943, The Reverend Dr. Verschoyle Dudley Wigmore, proud graduate of Wycliffe College (1941), took his bride Margaret to their first parish in Alliston Ontario where they joyfully began their ministry. Then came Calvary Anglican Church in Toronto followed by St. Olave’s (1955-1982). Versey’s years of ministry, his deep belief in ecumenicism, his friendship with his fellow clergy spanned a lifetime of devotion to the Lord. After Versey retired from active Church life, he and Margaret joined daughter Marena and Reneì and their family in Ottawa, where they enjoyed being part of happy times at 324 Billings. They had many years of fellowship and fun in the Retired Clergy Group and with their dear friends Catherine and Bill Mollington, Harvey and Jean Southcott and Floyd Tuzo. Their subsequent years at Rideau Place on-the-River were happily spent with new friends. In 2012 Versey celebrated his 100th birthday at his new home, Medex Extended Care. His wife Margaret, his loving family and friends, and the staff toasted this fine accomplishment. Versey was greatly touched by the greetings from the Diocese of Toronto, St. Olave’s and Wycliffe College. Everyone was thrilled that he had arrived at this milestone. When asked what the secret was, Versey would simply reply «just keep breathing». After a short bout of pneumonia, Versey died on August 1st with Marena and Melissa by his side and Fe and Conchita not far. He was the eldest son of Ena (Blackburn) and Richard Wigmore. Versey was predeceased by his dear wife Margaret, hisson Peter, his son-in-law Reneì Charron and his siblings: Doug and Dorothy Wigmore, Dick and Betty Wigmore, Ruth (Wigmore) and Elliott Hudson, Shirley (Wigmore) and Gordon Halladay, The Reverend William Wigmore and Art Kerr. He leaves to lovingly remember him, his daughter Marena, his grand-daughter Meìlissa (Aidan), his grand-children: Darlene, Al (Annette and Rylan), Chantal (Mark and Jayden) and Marc (Jillian and Ella); his siblings: Dorrie (Wigmore) Kerr and Bob (June) Wigmore, and his sister-in-law Shirley Wigmore; his many nieces and nephews and his godson Larry Clements. He will be missed by longterm friends Caye and Mark Curfoot-Mollington, Floyd Tuzo, Bob and Bette (deceased) Ragsdale, Harvey and Jeanne (deceased) Southcott, Ray and Kay Bratton, Judy Beal and more recent friends: Shirley, Emilio and Doug. We extend our grateful thanks to the wonderful staff at Medex who brought Versey comfort and tender care at the end of his journey. A special heartfelt thank-you to our angels Fe and Conchita.
