Domestic Students
Domestic students are insured under the University of Toronto Students' Union (UTSU) undergraduate healthcare and dental program, which provides partial to full coverage of pharmaceutical drugs, dental care, vision care, psychotherapy, massage, and more. Learn more here>>
Studentcare, the insurance group, also has a very straightforward phone app that you can use to make your insurance claims.
If you book on the Student Network, you will likely get 100% coverage.
- Local tip! Opencare is excellent for finding a dental provider that you can cross reference with the Student Network. If you book through them, you often get a gift card in exchange and may even make money getting your teeth cleaned!

International Health Coverage & Insurance
UHIP
The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is a compulsory health insurance plan for all international students, exchange students, new permanent residents and returning Canadians who are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). UHIP is also compulsory for all eligible dependents, including a partner, spouse and/or children. UHIP provides coverage for the same services for which OHIP provides coverage. However, depending on where you go for health services you are not guaranteed to be fully covered for the entire cost under the UHIP plan. Learn more here>>
As an international student, you will be automatically enrolled in UHIP. However, it is mandatory and your responsibility to enroll any dependent family members who have moved with you to Canada within 30 days of their arrival.
International students who are studying at a distance may opt out of UHIP.
In 2020–2021, the rates for 12 months of coverage were:
- Student: $720
- One dependent: $720
- Family (two or more dependents): $1440
Visit the University Health Insurance Program page to learn:
- What is covered by UHIP
- How to get your UHIP card online
- How to enroll dependent family members
- How to request an exemption
Finding a clinic and family doctor
On the UHIP website, you can find a list of health care providers that accept UHIP. These partner practices bill directly through UHIP, so you will not have to pay out of pocket: Find a clinic or a doctor.
Book an appointment as soon as you arrive as it can take months for new patients to get a family doctor.
Basic degree students (MDiv, MTS, MTSD, Certificate in Theological Studies) can go to the clinic on campus for free, and it is reasonably easy to get in.
Make sure you have printed your UHIP card and bring it with you to the doctor: Get your UHIP card>>
Insurance
In addition to UHIP, which covers basic and emergency medical needs, both domestic and international students at Wycliffe are covered by the University of Toronto Students’ Union (UTSU) undergraduate healthcare and dental program, which provides partial to full coverage of pharmaceutical drugs, dental care, vision care, psychotherapy, massage and more.
