Bible and Public Theology
Wycliffe College
The theme of "Bible and Public Theology" is intentionally wide. By "Public Theology" we mean both theological responses to issues arising in political and civil society, theology that is not about the church and the content of its faith directly, although it does not leave those things out of the picture.
Such theological responses will largely begin with, but not end with, the witness of Scripture and its interpretation within the Christian tradition. It will demonstrate appropriate concern of the people of God for "the nations" and those things which affect all as citizens, both the obviously good, the clearly bad, and a sizeable middle area where Christian discernment and wisdom are needed.
Public Theology reflects on culture, values, and policies. It is wider and deeper than "social and political ethics" but is not less than these things.

About the Colloquium
The Scripture and Theology Colloquium is a semi-annual gathering of faculty, pastors, students, and others who are interested in exploring the dynamic interactions of Scripture and theology. Featuring a selection of world-class experts, the colloquia will alternate in focus, sometimes addressing larger theological topics and other times considering a specific book or chapter of the Bible.
