MENTORS

Andrew Federle

“Hey there, my name is Andrew (please call me Andrew!), and I serve at St. Clement’s Church at Yonge & Eglinton in Toronto. This is my 13th year here; I joined the team in 2013, recruited to launch a ministry to young adults and parents. In 2017, I took over as Rector.

In my current capacity, I'm the keeper of our parish’s mission-vision-values, and I give a lot of attention to constantly explaining what it looks like to learn to follow Jesus Christ in all areas of our common life. My areas of focus include strategy, stewardship, leadership development, Christian education, and small groups. Along with Associate Rector, Pamela Rayment, I co-lead our staff and warden teams.

I graduated from Wycliffe in 2005, having graduated from Stanford University in 1999 with a degree in English and Creative Writing. During my MDiv, I interned at Church of the Redeemer, Bloor St., and San Lorenzo, Dufferin, - preparing for the latter with a full-time summer internship with the Bishop of Ecuador.

Upon graduation, I returned to the staff team of Redeemer, where I led a weekday drop-in program, youth ministry, and eventually served my Curacy. In 2009, I took up my first Incumbency at St. David’s at Jane and Lawrence: a predominantly West Indian congregation, whom I served for five years.

More recently (2023), I earned a Permaculture Design Certificate after eight months of intensive study; this was my most rigorous, comprehensive, and impactful course of study since graduate school. I applied many learnings to my role around the two-year Cast the Net visioning process for the Diocese of Toronto.

Things I’m passionate about: preaching, leadership, cross-cultural ministry, ecological design, my fire pit, bicycles, and music."

Rev. Ruth Bartlett

“Hello fellow alumni! My name is Ruth and I'm a two-time graduate of Wycliffe – MTSD (2020), and an MDiv (2022). I was ordained with the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ) in 2022, and I'm currently serving as the part-time permanent pastor of Calvary Baptist Church Toronto on Main Street (72 Main Street) in the east end of Toronto. I started as the associate pastor in fall 2020, and assumed this position in the fall of 2021.

I had no idea just how helpful the MTSD degree would be when I entered ministry - it has informed how I approach partnerships and understanding Calvary as part of a broader community, and helped me process and discern what this small urban church (30-50 attendees weekly) offers the Upper Beaches community.

I'm blessed to serve alongside three lay preachers, so I preach about twice a month. I have have been actively pursuing partnering with other churches in the area instead of working to do it all as a congregation by ourselves all the time. This ecumenical cooperation is something I came to value serving along people of different church backgrounds at Wycliffe, united by our love for Jesus, and our desire to know Him and make Him known.

I'm passionate about the church's witness, discipleship, children's ministry and the loneliness epidemic. As a result of my time in ministry at Calvary, I have become more and more passionate about thinking about our church buildings as ministry, understanding and combatting ageism, care for and with seniors, end of life care, and the Toronto housing crisis.

Through my time pastoring this church, I have come to appreciate the theology of space, and discerning a nuanced way to deal with looking at legacy through Christ's eyes."

Cindy Stover

Cindy Stover serves as the Canadian Justice Mobilization Program Manager for the Christian Reformed Church and World Renew in Canada. In this role, she supports Canadian churches and communities through learning experiences, relationship building, and resource development with a concentration on advocacy, Indigenous justice, climate care, and refugee justice.

Having grown up in Northern Canada, Cindy is a country girl at heart, but also loves her close-knit neighbourhood in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, where she is part of Eucharist Church, a worshipping community that seeks to find creative ways to practice hospitality in the city.

She holds an MTSD from Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto (2012), a program that was a perfect balance of practical non-profit skills for urban and international contexts, alongside opportunities for deep theological reflection on justice, poverty and community development.

Cindy is interested in seeing people enact justice and mercy in every area of their lives, from shopping habits, to talking to neighbours, to how communities respond to the most vulnerable.

She can often be found reading a good book around a campfire or watching a BBC miniseries with her cats and a cup of tea. Her favourite colour is sparkle.
