Hearing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission: Advancing Reconciliation among Aboriginals and Non‐Aboriginals
As part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Toronto School of Theology is sponsoring a panel discussion on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's final report. Among the 94 calls to action in the TRC final report, several involve the churches. Most notably, we’re asked to develop education strategies for schools of theology and congregations, and to respect Indigenous spirituality. We’ve invited a panel to talk with us about advancing reconciliation.
The panelists will be:
- Mark MacDonald, National Anglican Indigenous Bishop. He previously served ministries in Alaska and in Navajoland. He’s also the regional president for North America of the World Council of Churches.
- Mayo Moran, Provost of Trinity College, and formerly Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto, chairs the oversight committee of the Independent Assessment Process of the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat.
- Bob Rae, a former premier of Ontario and a former leader of the federal Liberal Party, is a senior partner at Olthuis Kleer Townshend, a law firm specializing in advocacy for Indigenous people.
