I’m a cradle Anglican and from a young age I wondered if I was called to be a priest. All the priests I looked up to in the various places I lived in my childhood told me that Wycliffe was the best Anglican seminary in Canada. These endorsements had some clout! My husband, Wyndham Thiessen, applied to U of T to do a Master of Philosophy. We figured if both of us were accepted, we would take the leap!

I loved my time at Wycliffe. They were golden years, full of friendships, learning, and fun. We lived in a married students’ apartment. We had no car, no money...it was great. I loved the professors—all of them. I particularly loved my systematic theology class (Joseph Mangina) and then Principal George Sumner's esoteric class on mission and global Christianity, and preaching, which I still care about very much today in my ministry. I loved Wednesday events and didn't miss any of them, official or unofficial (as we called our trips to the pub in the evening). I loved walking to the chapel in my slippers for morning and evening prayer. It took me a while, but I even loved the big city. My time at Wycliffe was joyful and enlightening.

Today, I'm so blessed to be at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Saskatoon. Our two sons were brought up here, and we live up the street. I am a part of the L'Arche community in Saskatoon, where my husband, Wyndham, has been director since coming to Saskatoon in 2006. My church, L'Arche, and family are three interconnected circles where I find joy, meaning, challenge, and opportunities to live out my calling as a human being.
