ThD, 2022 (expected)

I am from Indonesia, a country that has the world's largest Muslim population but where Christianity is strong and growing every day.

One of the reasons I chose Wycliffe College is the quality of its faculty, and especially their commitment to retrieving the church's ancient-future faith and to repairing the relationship between Scripture and theology. I am interested in reclaiming the place of Scripture in theology and the role of theology in scriptural interpretation, as well as in exploring which Asian theologians/pastors in the past have done this kind of work and how. My thesis explores such a project in the work of Asian revivalists Watchman Nee and John Sung, among other figures. Wycliffe’s commitment to evangelical faith, Anglicanized liturgy, rigorous scholarship, and common life have blessed me during my studies.

I have also been greatly blessed by the commitment, brilliance, generosity, and friendship of the faculty toward Wycliffe students. I am truly grateful to my supervisor (Dr. Ephraim Radner) and many, many others! They taught and inspired doctrines and Christian life. I’ve also appreciated the always warm and welcoming ambience and people at Wycliffe, especially the bond and fellowship among the grad students there!

Currently, while wrapping up my doctoral work, I am also part of the global family of Langham Scholars, an organization started by John Stott, which has a vision of growing faithful pastors and scholars in developing countries around the world. I teach theology at SouthEast Asia Bible Seminary, in Malang, Indonesia, which is one of the largest and oldest evangelical seminaries in the country. I also serve as the Head of the ThM program, which currently has about a hundred full-time students. I am excited to be where I am now, training young Christians to be future pastor-theologians and serving God's people in my home country, Indonesia. And I thank God for Wycliffe College for equipping me to do such work!
