Indigenous Leadership Week

Indigenous Program 58

What is the Indigenous Leadership Week?

A unique one-week program each year that gathers Christian Indigenous Leaders from across the country to learn and grow together, in partnership with Wycliffe College in Toronto.

One goal, different experiences

  • To break the mold of western-style learning; and meet the needs of Indigenous people according to their cultural experiences and heritage

One people, different contexts

  • Participants from Newfoundland to British Columbia - from Southern Ontario to the Northern Lights
  • A wide range of ages from recent high school graduates to great-grandparents
  • The meeting of Indigenous leaders with diverse cultural contexts but one faith

One team, different gifts

  • Indigenous leaders like Bishop Mark MacDonald, Bishop Lydia Mamakwa, and the Rev. Ray Aldred team up with various Wycliffe Faculty, to serve Indigenous People
  • Designed to adapt as leaders and participants learn together

One future, many hands

  • Free for all participants due to generous financial support of the 3 year pilot project by Mr. & Mrs. Jim and Edna Claydon of Toronto
  • Local dioceses or parishes invest in their participants with a $500 donation

Next Indigenous Leadership Week:

Learning & Living Communion

May 16-20, 2016

We will explore together questions like:

  • What does the Bible say about Communion?
  • What are some different ways that Christians understand Communion? (e.g., Anglican, Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, etc.)
  • How does one conduct an Anglican Communion service?
  • Where did our ways of celebrating Communion come from?
  • What does Communion have to do with evangelism and mission?

And we will go on field trips to:

  • Local churches
  • Local Indigenous cultural sites
  • A Toronto Blue Jays baseball game
  • And more!

With Indigenous Leaders: Ray Aldred, Bishop Mark MacDonald & Bishop Lydia Mamakwa, and Wycliffe Faculty Members: Annette Brownlee, Alan Hayes, Judy Paulsen, Ephraim Radner & Peter Robinson.
